Vulcan County owns and manages different types of lands, including:
- tax recovery land
- tax forfeiture land & property
- gravel pits
- municipal landfills
- commercial and industrial lots
Tax Recovery Lands
Vulcan County currently owns over 20,000 acres of tax recovery land that is managed under our Grazing Lease Program. All lands are native grass parcels used for grazing purposes and are mainly located in the East portion of the County.
Grazing Lease Program
Vulcan County has issued grazing lease agreements on tax recovery lands. Leaseholders have continual right to lease the land until a transfer or assignment occurs. All lands are inspected by Vulcan County’s Agricultural Services Department to ensure the pastures are kept in good health.
Land Management Review & Consultation
Vulcan County Council is reviewing the management of County owned lands, and would like input from County ratepayers and stakeholders through an online survey. Vulcan County’s grazing lease program is under review to ensure it is managed fairly and in a transparent manner. Changes to the program and land management objectives can affect the County financially in the short and long term.
