Marginal Land Recovery Grant

Purpose

Vulcan County recognizes the importance of conserving/rejuvenating marginal lands to improve overall ecosystem health. Focusing on saline prone lands, the Agricultural Services Department is offering funding to landowners to help improve marginal lands throughout the County by reducing invasive weed population and improving soil and water quality.

Goals & Funding

In Vulcan County, salinity is a major factor that has affected many acres. Through consultation and education, saline prone lands can be managed properly to reduce costs associated with farming poor producing land year over year.

The target of the Marginal Land Recovery Grant is to:

Surface Water Quality

Nutrient Runoff

Soil Fertility

Input Costs

Per Acre Profitability

Soil Erosion

Ground Water Utilization

Invasive Weed Populations

Vulcan County will provide funding to support local producers and landowners as they improve marginal lands. Marginal lands are considered to be agricultural lands that are affected by multiple negative environmental conditions reducing total yield output.

Eligible applicants can request up to $1,000 to cover costs associated with improving marginal lands. If approved for funding, applicants can also use Vulcan County seeding equipment at no charge to establish ground cover.  

Costs eligible for the grant include:

  • herbicide costs to control weeds
  • seed costs to plant desired varieties

Eligibility

To be eligible for the grant:

  • Recovery project must be located within Vulcan County
  • Provide complete & signed final product invoices for repayment

Approval Process

Applications will be reviewed by Vulcan County’s Agricultural Services Board. Funding is issued on a first come, first serve basis and grant funding will be distributed after product purchase receipts are submitted and reviewed by the Ag Service Board.
